When Rhonda Gruenewald’s work began promoting vocations, she was stunned to discover that only 10 to 20 percent of parishes throughout the country do anything to promote vocations, and of that small percentage, their efforts tend to be minimal, uncoordinated and therefore lack impact.<\/p>\n

Our very first workshop in 2015 occurred in Grand Island, Nebraska. You see, they were desperate as they had one seminarian at that time. We returned in 2019 and found parishes had implemented the Vocation Ministry model, and now had NINE seminarians! This is one of many examples\u2026<\/p>\n

Hundredfold: A Guide to Parish Vocation Ministry<\/em> was designed to inspire parishes to get involved in vocation work, help new ministries start strong by providing a clear guide to the ministry’s nuts and bolts, and reinvigorate longstanding committees with fresh ideas that attract new workers to his vineyard.<\/p>\n

As Vocation Ministry grew, so did the demand for more resources. In April 2017, Sembrando Semillas<\/em>, a Spanish translation of Hundredfold,<\/em> was published, providing additional materials specifically related to predominantly Spanish-speaking parishes.<\/p>\n

Our newest book, The Harvest: A Guide to Vocation Ministry in Education<\/em>, was released in the summer of 2021. It offers 75 pioneering ideas to create a vocation-friendly environment in schools and classrooms. We hope that vocations permeate all aspects of Catholic education.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the members of our Vocations Committee attended the Hundredfold Workshop for our Diocese in 2015 and returned with a new attitude and excitement about vocations. In the past couple of years, our Cathedral parish has become much more aware of the need for more vocations. I am happy to say we have a young man from our parish entering seminary this coming fall! Bulletin clips, hymnal bookmarks with pictures of our priests, sisters, deacons and seminarians, and Eucharistic adoration have brought vocations awareness to our parish. Special dinners for our priests, religious and consecrated life and deacons as well as a \u2018Meet our Seminarians\u2019 ice cream social are affirming our vocations, and we have encouraged vocations through a vocations panel for the confirmation students, having speakers talk about the priesthood, consecrated life, and married life.
